TAKE IT FROM OUR SATISFIED CUSTOMERS

Today was our first visit to Skrimp Shack. The food was hot and outstanding! We will definitely be back!

The food is fresh, fast and tasty. The staff was super friendly and the place was very clean. Had one of the fish sandwiches. One of the best I’ve ever had. If you know good fried fish, this place should be part of your regular vocabulary!

I came here a few days ago with my family a little bit before close. We had the family meal which included fried shrimp, catfish, hush puppies, Cole slaw, fried chicken and a shrimp po boy all cooked to perfection at an incredible price that can’t be beat! My daughter loves shrimp and she absolutely loved the food here and they gave her a balloon which she was happy about lol. All around great and friendly service too. Hope this place has continued success!

This was great stop! We stopped in around 815 on a Wednesday night. They were very accommodating and helped us choose dishes that were recommended. My husband ordered the monster mahi fish sandwich blackened & “Mitch’s way” which is a spicy addition. I ordered the fried shrimp platter, the lunch portion. We both got to choose one side, I chose mac & cheese and he chose coleslaw plus we got five hush puppies. The hush puppies were delicious, a bit sweet and bit savory. We loved the mac & cheese (really, really good!!) and the coleslaw was pretty good to. My plate was a bit messy when they brought it out (it had coleslaw from my husbands plate, haphazardly spilled on my plate). That didn’t impact it’s deliciousness but it didn’t look great either. It made me wonder if they were that careless in the back of house with other things. When server set down our food, she walked away without saying anything to us. I had to call her back to ask if they dish came with any sauce. She told me came it with cocktail but she didn’t put any on my plate. She had to go back and get cocktail for me. I don’t know if you have to request it or of it will come regularly with the fried shrimp dish.

I really wanted to love this place. It’s close to home, small business, and with a name like Skrimp Shack, I had a feeling it was going to be good.

Maybe it was the cashier who didn’t seem excited about the menu, but as first time guests, we love to ask employees their thoughts on the menu. Her thought when we asked about the side dishes? “Meh”… hmm.. okay. She did end up placing our order wrong and we left without an additional side we had asked for. Food was OK. We ordered half a pound of blackened shrimp and half a pound of fried shrimp. We asked for extra tartar, did not receive any tartar.

Could have been lack of customer service, but we know everyone is overworked, so we did not want to choose that as a fault. Maybe we’ll try it again in the future, but we’re not in a rush…

This was our first time stopping in and we will 100% be back. Our only note of negative would be the price, we thought our meal was a bit expensive, it was $36.00 for two of us.

This is a hidden surprise right out the street from my house, I stumbled upon it when I dropped off my car. The menu options are wonderful, from fish, shrimp to chicken for lunch specials. I ordered the grilled catfish which was fresh and delicious that was hot and delicious.
I highly recommend this location to try.

    Amazing food, must have!!!

I had never tried this place and the food looked good on their social media, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered online and drive to their location. The first thing I noticed was how clean the place was, which is a huge plus. The staff member at the counter was real friendly and quickly confirmed my order, and stayed that it the kitchen was working on it, and should be coming out shortly (I showed up early). I sat down at a table for approximately 2-3 minutes when I noticed the staff l member had brought my entire order (2 big bags) to my table. Great customer service!!!

I ordered the shrimp Po boy, 2 shrimp tacos, 2 mahi tacos, and the large box of fries. The Po boy (fried) as advertised and a must have!!!!! It was really flavorful and it brings a lot of shrimp. I got it with only cheese and mild secret sauce, but will be trying it with more toppings next time for sure. The large fries bring a lot and could feed 2-3 people. The shrimp tacos (blackened) were our second favorite.

We will definitely be coming back to this place!

This is a fast casual restaurant, where you order at the counter and the food is brought to you.

The name, Skrimp Shack, almost kept us away, but apparently it’s sort of a slang word for shrimp or crawfish, and I’m glad we tried it, because it far exceeded our expectations.

Chicken, Shrimp or six different kinds of fish can be either grilled, blackened or fried and are offered in either lunch or dinner sized portions. Some are also served as tacos or Po’ Boys.

My better half had the Grilled Haddock Basket with Collard Greens ($12.35 for the 7 oz lunch portion, comes with a drink.) I had the Grilled Shrimp Basket with Sweet Potato Fries ($12.05 for the lunch portion, plus a .50 upcharge for the sweets. Comes with a drink.)

First off, the “basket” wasn’t really a basket. Both meals were served on a paper covered aluminum tray. Aside from that misnomer, I had no quibbles at all.

Although Haddock can sometimes have a fishy taste, this thin white fillet and was very mild. The big surprise was the the amazing flavor from whatever the fish was marinated in or basted with. Not spicy at all but well seasoned and with a great grilled taste. Perfectly cooked.

My wife likes collard greens but finds many versions either too hot or too vinegary or both. Skrimp Shack’s was neither… flavorful without being spicy or sharp. Although there were no bits of meat, the greens had a pleasing smokiness from being cooked with pork.

The Grilled Shrimp were medium size and were also perfectly char grilled. Not at all overcooked or rubbery. Same awesome seasoning as the haddock. Sweet potato fries were crisp without being greasy.

A huge plastic cup of Banana Pudding ($3.70) was more than enough for two to share and was layered with slices of fresh banana and vanilla wafers, then topped with whipped topping and vanilla wafer crumbs. Served fresh and chilled. Key lime pie and beignets are also on the menu.

A few other details… This is a small franchise chain that started in Newport News, Virginia in 2011. One of the founders refers to it as “The Five Guys of Fried Seafood,” so that’s probably a pretty good way to describe the operation in a nutshell (See what I did there?) The Greenacres branch has apparently been open about a year.

The young lady that took our order was friendly and efficient and was wearing a mask. Tipping is not required, but there’s a plastic cup near the cash register where you can leave a few bucks if you care to. We did.
Portions are not huge, but you won’t leave hungry. It’s not the least expensive place around, but the quality and value are there.

I was surprised that the cocktail sauce and tartar sauce were served in foil packets rather than fresh made at the restaurant, but these were Skrimp Shack’s proprietary condiments and they were both different than the usual and surprisingly delicious. They both had a long ingredient list, so I’m surmising that the reason for the packets was so that the franchises don’t have to keep so many ingredients on hand and to assure consistency.

Cutlery is plastic and a little on the flimsy side, but adequate, as there is nothing on the menu that should be difficult to cut.

Pepsi products and fresh brewed iced tea, sweet or unsweet, are self serve from the fountain, with free refills. I’m pretty particular about my iced tea and this was decent.

Almost forgot to mention, the bathrooms (at least the men’s room) were spotless and well designed. Touchless faucet, soap and paper towel and, for those who care about such things, the fixtures and trash can were color coordinated, in shades of dark gray and reddish orange, and were aesthetically pleasing. Sorry I didn’t take a pic of the bathroom
I think a lot of people haven’t heard about this place, so if you’re in the area and you like fish and seafood, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Can’t wait to go back and try some of their other dishes (trays?) and several tasty looking sides!

Hubs found this place on IG and so we of course had to check it!
To start the place was super clean and everyone was wearing face coverings. Menu is pretty good, really nice selection of sandwich’s, po-boys, and fried seafood combos.
Hubs orders the catfish sandwich and I ordered the flounder blackened with fried shrimp on the side and mac and cheese. The catfish sandwich was H U G E! They are very generous with the catfish. The flounder was really good, seasonal really well and pretty decent size. The shrimp were good, however they are not large shrimp definitely on the smaller size. I was a little disappointed with that. The Mac and cheese was bomb! Made with white cheddar it was sooo good. Gooey cheese with every bite.
Overall the place was really good. Nice service at the counter and food came out pretty fast. I would definitely go there again.

  9. My friend and I decided to try this place after I saw them on Instagram. Their food pictures were absolutely mouth-watering, so we decided to give it a try tonight. My friend ordered the shrimp Po boy, and I ordered the shrimp and crab po’ boy. The employees were very friendly Our food was made to order and came out very fast. I will say that my sandwich looked good, but nowhere near as good and stuffed as their Instagram pictures. There was very little crab meat on my sandwich. But it was hot, fresh and delicious. They’re spicy sauce was also a delicious touch. We both had sweet potato fries that were perfectly cooked.

The restaurant itself was very clean and bright, with lots of cute decor. I think I would definitely come back to this restaurant and try the other things they have to offer.
